So, Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, is saying they're cutting back on their support for the open-source WordPress.org project. They're spinning this as a way to strengthen WordPress, blaming it on a lawsuit from WP Engine and what they call "the 'community.'" Notice the scare quotes? Super shady. It's like they're saying, "These people aren't the real community."

They're playing the victim card, big time. "Oh, poor us, WP Engine is suing us, and these mean people are criticizing us, so we have to cut funding for WordPress.org." It's a classic deflection tactic. They started this whole mess, but they're acting like they have no choice.

What's really going on? It looks like Matt Mullenweg (Automattic's CEO) is trying to squeeze out WP Engine, a competitor. And the WordPress community? They just want a say in how things are run. They want a governance system that actually includes everyone, even (gasp!) Mullenweg himself.

Automattic's use of scare quotes around "community" is a major red flag. It's a way to discredit anyone who criticizes them. Like, if you disagree with Automattic, you're suddenly not part of the WordPress community anymore. It's a blatant attempt to silence dissent. Remember when they announced "X"? Same tactic.

Someone even called it out perfectly: "Is this 'community' being held hostage?" Exactly!

This whole thing feels like a power play by Mullenweg. He’s waging his “nuclear war,” as some are calling it. And guess who gets caught in the crossfire? The actual WordPress community and the .org project.

What's the takeaway? Automattic's PR spin is misleading. They're trying to control the narrative and paint themselves as the good guys. But their actions speak louder than words. Cutting support for WordPress.org while claiming it's for the greater good? Doesn't add up. It's time to see through the doublespeak and recognize what's really happening. What do you all think? Let me know in the comments.
